Grief & Loss
Counselling
Grief is a natural emotional response to significant loss, and it can affect every aspect of your mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing. Loss may occur through the death of a loved one, miscarriage or pregnancy loss, the breakdown of a relationship or friendship, redundancy or job loss, or the loss of independence, identity, or ability.

Grief is often experienced as an emotional rollercoaster, involving feelings such as shock, disbelief, anger, sadness, guilt, confusion, and emotional numbness. During grief, many people experience sleep disturbance, appetite changes, loss of pleasure, emotional reactivity, and unexplained outbursts toward those closest to them.

While grief is a normal and deeply human process, some individuals can become stuck in prolonged or unresolved grief. This may lead to unhelpful coping strategies such as alcohol use, withdrawal, isolation, heightened irritability, or emotional shutdown. When grief remains unsupported, it can also contribute to depression, anxiety, and ongoing emotional distress.

Seeking professional grief and loss counselling provides a safe, compassionate space to process your experience, regulate intense emotions, and develop healthy coping strategies. With skilled therapeutic support, you can navigate grief in a way that honours your loss while gently moving toward healing, resilience, and renewed emotional wellbeing.

Guidelines for Online Appointments
We can maximise our online experience if we both:
-
ensure that we have a private, quiet, dedicated place for our meeting.
-
make sure that we have all that we need at our fingertips, for example; notes, books, pad, pen and a drink.
-
remove distractions; ensure that the TV, radio, kids, work colleagues or other computer applications are turned off.
-
have had a few minutes to prepare ourselves before meeting, so that we are relaxed and
-
focused, not rushed with scattered thoughts.
-
consider this a normal appointment, the same as if visiting a G.P, Dentist or other healthcare professional in their office. We wouldn’t wear our pyjamas to an appointment (though we might like to), so lets keep the space professional.
